HOW TO PROPERLY DETOX – STEP BY STEP GUIDE
Every now and then we feel the need to detox. But have you wondered what is the right way to do it? In a few words, the whole process is thought to cleanse and rejuvenate your body, improve the circulation and metabolism, and strenghten the immune stystem. It can also improve the condition of your skin, hair and nails, as well as slow down the aging process. What you may not know, however, is that this process has physical benefits, too. A detox can improve your ability to cope with stress, clear your mind and lift your mood.
Our bodies are highly efficient machines and are constantly working to remove toxins from the circulations. But due to unhealthy diet, stress and late nights it is put under pressure. So regular exercising supported by a healthy diet and a frequent detox regime will bring your body back in good working order. It is also essential to drink plenty of water (at least 6-8 glasses a day) so that you replace the fluids you have lost through urination, sweating and defecation.
Preparation
Choose just one of these fruits or vegetables:
- grapes
- apples
- pears
- pineapple
- papaya
- carrots
- cucumber
- celery
You will neeed 1-1.5 kg of your chosen fruit or vegetable, 2 litres of still mineral water or filtered tap water, herbal teas or fresh herbs to infuse. If you are not okay with eating only fruits and veggies, you can have fiber, including brown rice, beets, radishes, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella, and seaweed are excellent detoxifying foods as well.
The days before detox
Prepare for your detox by cutting down on meat and dairy products, salt, wheat, tea, coffee and sugary foods. Avoid alcohol and cigarettes. The evening before, eat a light meal. A vegetable and bean soup would be perfect. Have an aromatheraphy bath and go to bed early.
Detox day
Morning: Start your day with a juice of half a lemon in a cup of warm water. This kickstarts the liver. Do some simple stretching exercises. For breakfast, prepare your chosen fruit or vegetable. Sip water at regular intervals throughout the day.
Late morning: Have a massage or try out some relaxation techniques. Eat some of your fruit and vegetable and drink plenty of water.
Lunch: Prepare and eat your fruit and vegetable. Drink water.
Afternoon: Try doing some gentle exercises, such as yoga, pilates, or brisk walking, cycling or swimming. Follow this exercise with some of your fruit or vegetable and herbal tea. Evening: Finish off your quota of fruit and vegetable. Meditate or practise a relaxation technique. Pamper yourself with a manicure or pedicure. Listen to some calming music. Have an Epsom salts bath to encourage the elimination of toxins through your skin. Pour 450 g slats into a warm bath. Go to bed early.
The day after
It is important to ease your body out of a detox gradually. Start the following day with a cup of warm water and lemon juice and do some simple exercises. For the first few days keep to cleansing foods and simple recipes. Try not to over-exert yourself.
