INA ASSA: „I ADORE MARKETS WITH ANTIQUE SHOPS”
„MADAME FIGARO Bulgaria ”
The daughter of the famous painter Gredi Assa is 25-years old. She graduated the English high-school in Sofia and then she attended summer school in architecture in Parson`s School of Design, New York. In 2003 she graduated ESAG (Ecole Supérieure d`Arts Grafiques et d`Architecture Intérieure – Design) and in 2006 – fashion design at ESMOD (Ecole Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode), Paris. She made a specialty in shoe design at Central Saint Martin`s School of Design, London. For one year she has worked as assistant-designer at Paco Rabanne fashion house. In 2006 she worked as assistant-designer at the French fashion house Francesko Smalto. Since 2007 she has worked as an accessories designer at the Givenchy Empire in Paris.
What do you do right now?
- I draw sketches of formal and casual shoes.
Which is the most important source of inspiration?
- Visual arts and architecture.
For you fashion is...
- An area of unexpected things.
What are your fashion predictions for the next 6 months?
- The answer of the previous question underlines the risk of answering this one. Colors will become stronger, even louder. I think this is a consequence of the interest towards some exhibitions: the posters of Jacques Vilegres, the sculptures of Cesar. The exhibition of contemporary arts is coming. The question is how artifacts will be interpreted.
What is your idea of luxury?
- In my opinion luxury is a long process in which an idea turns into a subject, which a lot of people long for. There is something paradoxical in luxury: this is an industry which creates unreal experience.
What do you wear - your own clothes or...?
I don’t have enough time to design and sew clothes for myself. It is by accident when I chose clothes.
What is your favorite brand?
- Ricardo Tisci.
Which are the three places in the world you like the most?
I adore markets with antique shops. For example on the market near Porte de Clignancourt you can find lace, embroideries, as well as my favorite men’s watch-chains. Or the market Porto Bello in London for vintage accessories and jewels. Kiliwatch is a shop where you can find clothes of young and still unknown designers. It is situated on 64, Tiquetonne.
Which are the three most luxurious things that you have in your suitcase?
- It seems very uninteresting but wherever I travel, I bring at least three suitcases with me.
Who are your fashion icons?
- Kate Moss because of her formal negligee style, combined with typical Britain style.
What do you never go out without?
- I never go out without an appropriate handbag.
Which are the cloth, accessory and the implemented idea which you are the most pride of?
- A black handbag Clarabelle from Givenchy. It looks like a medical one and this quality gives it a strange theatricality.
What is like to work with the big names in world fashion and who do you know personally?
- It is stimulating and can be stressing. It is stimulating because big names have big expectations. It can be stressing because everybody knows that the expectations between two fashion shows grow. Till now I have worked with Patrick Robinson, Brana Ulf, Frank Boukle, Ricardo Tisci.
What do you spend your money for?
- For accessories. I’m crazy about handbags, shoes and jewels.
