RESORT 2020: IN THE SPIRIT OF THE NEW BEGINNING
Emma Stoyanova
There are rarely constants in the dynamic fashion world - industry giants are constantly on the lookout for bigger and bolder ideas, and keeping up with the trends in fashion is comparable to working full-time. One thing is for sure - the fashion calendar is no exception. While many may remember the days when Spring / Summer and Autumn / Winter were the only seasons on the fashion scene, few can deny that in our time of frantic consumption and growing influence on social media, designers have to make more and more to keep the audience interested.
Here, too, Resort intervenes - the pre-collection, which comes after the sale of the collections from the Autumn / Winter season, but before those from Spring / Summer are put on sale in stores. For those who spend their holidays under the sun of the Mediterranean, flee the summer heat amidst the highs of Aspen, or just want more - the resort offers something for everyone.
Versace and the Wild West: Without Borders and Barriers For the resort's collection this year, Versace bets on the American West, the unbridled spirit and fearless femininity of the "rodeo queens." The collection is also a reflection of Donatella Versace herself, who embodies exactly those strong qualities that the label often relies on.
The Wild West mythology was also one of the great passions of the late Gianni Versace, whose original signature was transformed into a new brand logo and has a strong presence in the collection. Gianni's collection from 1992, as well as the structured silhouettes of the 80's, have also left their mark. But there is no place for nostalgia - as the designer herself says, "Fashion knows no boundaries or barriers." With this year's Resort, the Versace Collection shows just that - bold prints, contrasting silhouettes and fabrics, and of course, conquering new territories.
Miu Miu and Horse Riding: Playing with Conservatism
Undoubtedly the first thing on the Miu Miu Collection for Resort 2020 that has attracted public attention is the location where it was presented. The show in question took place at the Hippodrome d'Auteuil, a Paris-based horse race track dating back to 1873. Although the track is undoubtedly an Instagram, Miuccia Prada gave another reason for choosing a location. She explained that she considered horse riding a conservative sport, and given her sensitivity to the current political situation, she wanted to address the topic of conservatism.
"If I have to say something, it will be about playing with conservatism, with glamor and fun." That's what Miu Miu did for Resort 2020 - showcased classic elements inspired by horseback riding, such as double buttoned blazers and shorts. High waist, breaking them with high platforms, energetic colours and many, many hats. One thing is for sure - "classic" doesn't always mean "boring."
Nina Ricci and Minimalism: Towards New Directions
One week before the start of the Spring 2019 season, Nina Ricci announced the appointment of Rushemy Botter and Lizzie as leaders in the brand's creative department. Almost a year later, the young designers' imprint on the label's face is more than tangible. Their influence is even evident in the Nina Ricci showroom on Montaigne Avenue, where among the wildflower and vintage furniture arrangements, Botter and Lizzie have placed figures of the Ninja Turtles and the Light Year Baz.
Yet, these intricate changes, as well as the new directions in which they take the design of the brand, radiate warmth and inspire a sense of new life. The minimalist approach and 360-degree angles typical of designers are preserved, but their growing experience in women's clothing contributes to the elegance and agility of the collection. The undeniable explosion of colours, the lightness of architectural forms, and the fresh look at the idea of "femininity" are just some of the surprises of Nina Ritchie for Resort 2020 - and we can't wait for more.
Resort 2020: The spirit of the new beginning
What is a vacation if not a fresh start? Time to rest, to rethink, to change. In 2020, the resort gave us just that - an opportunity to explore unfamiliar territories, to give new life to the traditional, to go in different and bold directions - without boundaries and barriers. Escaping the monotonous and remembering to be fearless, daring and colourful - both in fashion and in everything else. And despite many responsibilities, knowing when to take a step back to reconsider. However, in life as well as in fashion, there are rarely constants.
